Project for a Francophone Community Center in Hamilton

Toronto, March 3, 2016 – The Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud is pleased to report that there have been recent developments in its application with the Ontario Ministry of Education (MOE) regarding the funding of a new French-language Catholic high school to serve students from the Brantford, Haldimand-Norfolk, Simcoe and Hamilton-Wentworth areas.
During meetings with representatives of the CSDCCS, the MOE was receptive to the concerns of the community. More specifically, the MOE has expressed a will to collaborate with the CSDCCS in order to prepare a request for funding which would allow the construction of a community center to serve Hamilton’s French-speaking community. To bring such a project to fruition, several other partners will have to join the project’s funding structure, including the federal government and the adjacent school board.
The CSDCCS is therefore inviting the Conseil scolaire Viamonde to join the discussion table in order to explore the possibility of preparing a tripartite funding request – MOE, CSDCCS and CSViamonde – which would be submitted to the federal government as soon as possible.
“I would like to thank the MOE for opening the dialogue in order to find ways to move forward. The community has been waiting a very long time for a new French-language Catholic high school to be built. After many actions undertaken by the CSDCCS and the community, notably by the #ActionACMT group, the project is now expanding to possibly include a community center which would serve the whole francophone community. It is with much enthusiasm and hope that the CSDCCS is moving forward with these discussions. We trust that the Conseil scolaire Viamonde will see these developments as positive steps for the whole community”, stresses Ms. Chartrand, President of the CSDCCS.
